On the first of December I went to my first blogging event. The festival was held by the wonderful people of Blogosphere, who publish a magazine, podcast series and host a blogger network alongside the various events they manage. My dad and I were spending the weekend in London (read about what we got up to here) so Dad drove me straight to the event in the morning.
The event took place in the stunning Landmark Hotel in Marylebone, London. The winter gardens, an atrium filled with palm trees, is impressive enough, but with the Christmas decorations up the whole place looked incredible.
The event was held in the Ballroom (hello, fancy!) and we queued for a few minutes before the doors opened at 10. To say I was apprehensive was the understatement of the year. I’ve done pretty much every event I’ve been to on my own – Glamour’s Beauty Festival, Vogue Festival and so on, but my anxiety was especially high. I walked in and was too terrified to say hello to anyone or approach any of the stalls, so I went straight to the stage area and sat down on the front row ready for the first talk of the day.
The first panel was the Beauty of Travel, in association with World Duty Free. The guest speakers included Em Sheldon, Beth Sandland and Ling K Tang (not pictured as she was running late!). It was a great panel and these lovely ladies gave me serious travel envy. I currently have one trip planned for next year which is a surprise for my family so I can’t say anymore yet! I definitely want to start a saving fund so I can get another trip in in 2019.
I grew slightly braver after the talk and helped myself to a mocktail (or two!). I started approaching the stalls and even took a cheeky selfie. There were stalls from World Duty Free, Nars, Tom Daxon, Omorovicza, Yolt, All Things Hair, audioBoom, Big Potato Games and Vionic.
The second panel of the day was ‘Pitching to brands, securing deal and managing money’ hosted by Yolt. My blog is still so new that this money element is not applicable to me, but it was totally fascinating to hear the discussion and the advice offered. The speakers included Maria Joynson, Aftab Panthan, Laila Daho, Joshua Barnett and Claire Innes (Head of Yolt’s Influencer Marketing).
The above photo was taken by one of the guys at the Vionic booth. I’m awkwardly posing with the boots as my outfit is completely wrong for them, but by posting I had the chance to win four pairs from the brand. Got to be in it to win it, am I right?!
I had an all day ticket, meaning I had an hour to kill at lunchtime. I found my way to the Winter Gardens and ended up taking photos for the whole duration. As you can see from all the attendees’ instagram feeds, we all had the same idea. I chatted briefly with Maria Joynson whilst she tried to nail the perfect photo.
After lunch I began to feel a bit braver, and began speaking to some of the other girls at the event. They were all super lovely and it was so nice getting to know them all. I’m linking them all down below – if I forget to tag you I’m so sorry!
I had a great chat with Claire Innes from Yolt. As the Yolt app is free I was really interested in how the business side works, especially as they have a dedicated team for Influencer Marketing.
The final panel of the day was ‘How to grow an authentic audience on Instagram’. It featured Lydia Elise Millen, Sammi Jefcoate, Bronte Huskinson and Saby Salvatierra (of All Things Hair). I really loved this panel and have already started implementing some of the advice given.
Afterwards l met the stunning Lydia who was kind enough to take a photo with me (talk about the Swan and the Ugly Duckling!!!). I’m currently obsessed with her Christmas with the Millen-Gordons vlogs, Lydia and Ali are so festive and their home is beautiful.
At the end we each received a goody bag. This included a Dior Pallet, a notebook from All Things Hair and a ‘Santa Banter’ game to name but a few of its contents. I said goodbye to all my new friends, and met dad in the lobby to continue our London trip (read here).
I hope you enjoyed this post, if you have any questions about the Blogosphere event leave me a comment and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! I will be posting some more Christmassey content next week. In the meantime, make sure you’re following me on Instagram to keep up with my Christmas adventures.
